The French historian Jule Michelet (1799-1874) noted for his Story of thr French Revolution stayed in Nervi in 1853, then a small and poor suburb east of La Superba (Genoa, The Proud). HHe corresponded with his contemporary Giuseppe Mazzini. In the 16th century an anonymous French historian wrote the history of Genoa from the era of CaCarthegens to the 16th century. Very chauvinist in describing the beauty of the different European cities; Bruges in Flanders, Florence, Genoa, London, Milan, Naples, Rome, etc, he always ended his powetry with the verse in 15th century's French "mas taujurs Paris en France est la plus belle san per", translated "But Paris in France is incomparably the most beautiful".
