Dante's pluralism and the Islamic Philosophy of Religion. Dante's relationship with Islam and Islamic Thought is something of a conundrum. On the one hand, Dante notoriously assigned Muhammad a miserable fate in the eigth circle of Hell. On the entire structure of the Divine Comedy bears an unmistakable resemblence to Muhammad's fabled Mi'raj or Ascension, as Asin Palacios and Maria Corti demonstrated (see also Dante and Islam, Casalino Pierluigi on the web).
