Islamic spirituality.

The religious experience has been immensely important in the evolution of Islamic spirituality. It is celebrated each year on 27 Rajab, the seventh lunar month, and over the centuries mystics, philosophers and poets have speculated on its significance. It has even entered the Western tradition, because Muslims accounts of the miraj, Muhammad's ascent to heaven, affected Dante's account of his imaginative journey through the hell, purgatory and heaven in The Divine Comedy, even though with typical Western schizophrenia, as we have seen, he put the Prophet himself in one of the lowest circles of hell.
