Averroes (Ibn Rushd) continued to attract scholarly attention in Europe and especially in Italy, particularly in the city of Padua. Another student of Averroes was the great poet Dante Alighieri (1265-1321). Averroes' philosophy greatly influenced his political treatise DE MONARCHIA. Afn ter Dante's death, Dante was accused of Averroism, and Pope John XXII ordered the public burning of copies of DE MONARCHIA (see MONARCHIA by Casalino Pierluigi on Asino Rosso).
