I have seen in Beirut an idealized illustration of the king of Afghanistan Ghazi Amanullah, who reigned from 1919 to 1929, when he was exiled by a revolution, guilty of attempting the implement a drastic modernization of his country. The caption reads "Ghazi Amanullah Khan", in which "Ghazi" means "hero", a combatant in the "holy war". He earned this title by fighting the English at the beginning of his reign, obtaining independence for his country that had been a British proctetorate.
